Welcome to the "Supported or Suspended?" website
July 2010
It is now over a year since this web site was created and we had a day at Burrswood. I am very pleased that the take up has been small because hopefully there is no need for such a support network. The articles in the “Church Times“ last August did prompt one diocese to get in touch. And others have recognised that this can be a very vulnerable time in peoples lives.
I don’t in any way see this venture as a failure as I know some people had there needs met by this fellowship. However I do feel that this is the time to call a halt. I would be happy to share my experiences - to contact me click here.
Yours in Christ

We are so pleased that you have found us. This website seeks to network the wives of recently retired clergy, and those about to retire, and to create opportunities for them to meet together from time to time for mutual encouragement and support
It is well known that facing bereavement can damage your health, so having to face the loss of home, status, income, community, church family and ultimately identity in one weekend can take its toll. This is the lot that befalls many clergy wives when their husbands retire. Clergy wives at this stage feel that they are in a state of suspension, never having travelled this path before. Supported or Suspended exists in order to give care and support at this time.
We seek to do this by organising days of encouragement and by building relationships so that we can help one another and do not feel alone when these problems have to be faced.
"May your unfailing love rest upon us O Lord, even as we put our hope in you." Psalm 33: 22
